Admission 2014-15
The University will
hold Entrance Examination on May 16, 17, 18 and
19, 2014 for admission to various full-time programmes of study at
the following 51 cities : Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Amritsar,
Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore,
Dehradun, Delhi, Dimapur, Gangtok, Guwahati, Goa, Gorakhpur, Gwalior,
Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Katihar, Kolkata, Lucknow,
Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Pant Nagar, Patna,
Pondicherry, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Secunderabad,

Candidates having the M.Sc or equivalent degree in allied

M.Sc in Life
Sciences: An
integrated interdisciplinary programme in Modern Biology
Eligibility: Bachelor’s (B.Sc or B.Tech or equivalent) in
Biological, Physical or Agricultural Sciences under the 10+2+3 pattern of
education with at least 55% marks.

Environmental Sciences
M.Phil/Ph.D in Environmental Sciences
including Interdisciplinary Areas of Biology (Ecology, Biotechnology,
Biophysics, Bioremediation), Chemistry (Air, Water, Soil Pollution), Geology
and Physics.
Eligibility: M.Sc degree or equivalent in
any branch of basic or applied science or applied science or MBBS or
B.Tech/B.E. with minimum 55% marks.
M.Sc in
Environmental Sciences: An Interdisciplinary Course with Environmental Orientation,
drawn from relevant areas of Biological, Chemical, Earth and Physical Sciences.
Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any branch of basic or applied
science under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
The school offers academic programmes leading to the
degrees in Computer Science and Technology.
M.Phil/Ph.D and
M.Tech/Ph.D
Eligibility: Master’s degree in Computer Science or Mathematics
or Statistics or Operational Research or in any branch of Science or Bachelor’s
degree in any branch of Engineering or Master of Computer Applications (MCA)
with at least 55% marks.
MCA (Master of
Computer Applications): 3 year programme open to candidates with adequate competence in
mathematics.
Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with adequate
competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55%
marks.
Physical Sciences: M.Sc degree in Physics,
Chemistry or Mathematics, with at least 55% marks
Candidates having majored in Physics or Chemistry should
have had Mathematics at least up to the B.Sc level.
Exceptions can be made in case of applicants with B.Tech
(Electronics/Electrical) degrees provided they successfully qualify the
entrance examination.
Chemical Sciences, M.Sc degree in Chemistry or
Physics, with at least 55% marks
Candidates majoring in Chemistry should have
specialization in Analytical/ Organic/ Inorganic/ Physical Chemistry/Chemical
Physics/Polymer Chemistry at the Master’s level

Centre for the Study
of Law and Governance
M.Phil/Ph.D in Law
and Governance
Eligibility: Master’s degree in Law, Political Science, Public
Administration, Economics, Sociology, History, Philosophy and Cognate
Areas/Disciplines with 55% marks; or 60% in any branch of natural science.
The university admits a limited number of candidates to
M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D programmes
on the basis of viva-voce who have qualified a National Test entitling them to
a JRF in Schools of Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental
Sciences, Computer and Systems Sciences, Computational and Integrative Sciences.
Eligibility: Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum
eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to
M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D programmes through entrance examination under
category-A above in above Science Schools and have qualified a National Test
entitling them to a JRF are eligible to apply.
The University will hold entrance examination (in Delhi centre only) for admission to Certificate of
Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu a one-year Part-Time Programmes of Study in the School of Language , Literature and Culture Studies.
Since these are part-time programmes, these are intended
for candidates residing in Delhi NCR only.
Admission to Diploma of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma
of Proficiency will be made on basis of the past academic record of the
candidate which will be assessed in accordance with the criteria laid down by
the university for selection.
Programmes of Study: Advanced Diploma in Mass Media
in Urdu; Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto; Diploma of Proficiency in
Pushto and Bahasa Indonesia; Certificate of Proficiency in Mongolian, Pushto,
Bahasa Indonesia and Urdu.
Certificate
of Proficiency: Atleast Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an examination recognised as
equivalent thereto with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate.
Diploma
of Proficiency: Atleast Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an examination recognised as
equivalent thereto with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and Certificate of
Proficiency in the Language concerned or an examination recognised as
equivalent thereto.
Advanced Diploma of
Proficiency: Atleast
Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an examination recognised as equivalent
thereto with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and Diploma of Proficiency in
the language concerned or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto.
Advanced Diploma in
Mass Media in Urdu: A
Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with a minimum of 45% marks
in aggregate with Urdu as one of the subjects at High School or Intermediate or
B.A. Level.
Foreign
Nationals: All foreign nationals present in India
are required to appear in the entrance examination subject to their fulfilling
minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for Indian students as indicated
under Category-A above.
However, in the event of their selection, they will be
considered for admission subject to equivalence of their degrees as per
eligibility requirements.
Reservation: 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non
creamy layer), 15% and 7.5% of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates
respectively in all programmes of study, 3% seats are reserved for Physically
Challenged (Handicapped) candidates (with a minimum of 40% disability)
All SC/ST/Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates
who have passed and/or are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible
to appear in the entrance examination irrespective of their percentage of marks.
Besides, all candidates who have passed qualifying
examination prescribed for admission to the concerned programme of study from
the identified backward districts, will be eligible for deprivation points.
All Kashmiri migrants and wards/widows of certain categories
of Defence Personnel will be eligible for deprivation points subject to their
submitting a documentary evidence of their status
All female candidates are also eligible for deprivation
points.
Only those candidates will be eligible for deprivation
points as stated above who seek admission through entrance examination.
Application
Form: There
is a different application form for each category (Category-A and Category-C)
(admission through entrance examination) and Category-B (admission of JRF
holders).
Candidates should therefore clearly indicate on the self
addressed envelope, the category for which the application form is required by
them.
For admission through entrance examination under
Category-A and Certificate of Proficiency (Part-Time Programme) under
Category-C, candidates can opt upto a maximum of three Fields of Study in a
single application form for the same level of Programmes (COP-Part-Time) or
B.A. (Hons) (1st year) or M.A./M.Sc/MCA or M.Phil/Ph.D, Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D,
M.Tech/Ph.D, MPH/ Ph.D, and are not required to submit separate application
forms for each field of study.
In case a candidate submits more than one application form
for the same level of programmes of study, his/her candidature will be rejected.
However, this restriction will not apply to candidates who
apply for JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D programmes under
Category-B above and Diploma/Advanced Diploma of Proficiency (Part-Time
Programmes) under Category-C.
Candidates are required to submit separate application
form for each Field of Study for admission to B.A. (Hons) 2nd year under
category-A, JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D under Category-B and
for Diploma and Advanced Diploma (Part-Time) programmes under Category-C.
Online Application: Candidates can apply online on payment
of prescribed fee if they have access to a computer, a printer and Internet by
logging on to JNU website.
Online application portal will remain open from 10.00 a.m.
on 07th February, 2014 till
05.00 p.m. on 26th March, 2014.
Offline
Application:
Set of application form and prospectus can be obtained through post by sending
crossed Bank draft for Rs 300/- (Rs three hundred only) drawn in favour of
Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi alongwith a self addressed
(unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cmsx25 cms clearly indicating
the programme of study for which the application form is required on the
self-addressed envelope to the Section Officer (Admissions), Room No-28,
Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067.
Candidates seeking a set of application form and
prospectus from Nepal
are required to send a demand draft of Rs. 400/- or equivalent in US Dollars.
Money orders and cheques are not accepted.
BPL card holders will be issued a set of application form
and prospectus free of cost on submission of a copy of the valid BPL card
issued by the competent authority showing their name in the card.
