INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, ADMISSION TO ACADEMIC PROGRAMME-2016

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), a Deemed to be University and an autonomous body under Department of Space (DOS), was formed in 2007 and is functioning from the 100 acre campus at Valiamala, located about 20 km from Thiruvananthapuram city. IIST offers a range of academic programmes, namely B.Tech., and M.Tech., M.S., doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in areas related to Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Astronomy & Astrophysics, Chemistry, Earth System Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, Physics and Remote Sensing, with specific focus on space science and technology.
IIST announces admission to the following undergraduate and dual-degree programmes for the academic year 2016-17, to eligible Indian citizens:
Ø       4-Year B.Tech Programme in Aerospace Engineering                   (60 Seats)
Ø       4-Year B.Tech Programme in Avionics                                              (60 Seats)
Ø       5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech. and M.S., M.Tech.) Programme      (20 Seats)
Note: The 5-year Dual Degree programme leads to B.Tech. degree in Engineering Physics and any of the following Post-Graduate degree specializations: (i) M.S. in Solid State Physics (ii) M.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics (iii) M.S. in Earth System Science and (iv) M.Tech. in Optical Engineering. There is no exit option at the end of four years.
Candidates who are desirous to join the above mentioned academic programmes in IIST must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2016 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2016 conducted by NTs. They must also secure a minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2016 as given below:-
(a) General (GEN) Candidates: At least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).
(b) Other Backward Community-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) Candidates: At least 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).
(c) Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) & Persons with Disabilities (PD) Candidates: At least 10% marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

IIST ADMISSION RANK LIST: IIST Admission Rank list will be generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to 11ST and satisfy all the eligibility criteria. The 11ST admission web portal for online registration will be opened in the month of June 2016. IIST Admission Rank list will be based on the JEE (Main)-2016 All-India Rank list (including category rank) to be prepared and published by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the last week of June, 2016.
RESERVATION OF SEATS: IIST follows the reservation policy of Government of India as applicable to Higher Educational Institutions for reservation of seats for various categories.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Each Semester, IIST provides Financial Assistance for students who meet the specified academic performance standards. This assistance covers the expenses of education viz. Tuition Fee, Students Amenity Fee, Hostel charges including dining, Establishment charges and Medical needs. In addition, a Book Allowance of Rs. 3000/- per semester is also provided to each student. ABSORPTION IN ISRO, DOS: On successful completion of the academic programme, the students who meet the specified academic standards set by IIST, may be absorbed in DOS, ISRO as Scientists, Engineers, only to the extent of filling the vacancies announced by DOS, ISRO for IIST students, for the year of completion of the course. As performance based financial assistance is provided by DOS to the students of IIST, ISRO, DOS will have the first right to absorb them, subject to the human resource requirements of ISRO, DOS.
